Misery Index Studio Update From Adam Jarvis
Friday, 09 May 2008
As soon as we showed up I had a good feeling about this record. We are down at GodCity Studio, in Salem MA. The drum room is amazing! The studio has wood floors, natural light and killer acoustics. Kurt is all about the drums (even though he is a guitar player) he has a in house drum tech, who does an amazing job. We spent the first day just getting drum sounds. Also, we tried a killer tom head combo, we used Evans EC2S on the top and Emperors on the bottom, it definetly gives them a thunderous sound! So we started the next day fresh, besides coming down with a serious case of allergies, got 4 songs done.

Today we got 4 more, 3 of which were at 240! The drums are sounding wicked and natural so far and the overall goal for the record is to have it sound as natural as possible. Tomorrow there are 3 more songs to do, then the drums are done! Over all, Kurt is amazing to work with and is a good producer. He is not afraid to tell you that a fill sounds like a bunch of 3rd graders at a Guitar Center playing! Stay tuned to sickdrummer.com for more information and some sneak preview video footage! Mike Smith Hired For Experimental Project
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

Louisiana based experimental project "Psychometry" has hired the services of Suffocation drummer Mike Smith to perform and record on their upcoming Album "The Four Points". Psychometry is an atmospheric, melodic metal band made up of professional musicians experienced in several different styles of music. The project ranges from symphonic,Classical, electronic, as well as extreme underground metal. Psychometry blends a wide variety of the world's music and is formed as a collection of composers so as not to be placed into a specific genre of music.

When asked about the project, here's what Mike had to say:  "The change in musical direction from the norm of Death metal is a welcome one. It gives me the opportunity to re-train myself to play with the goal of appealing to listeners of multiple genres".

Jason Bittner - Dimebag Tribute
Tuesday, 22 April 2008

Leave it Alone is the first track to be released from the up-coming memorial disc honoring the legendary Dimebag Darrell Abbott. The incredible story of Darrell's life and death is well known and tributes were given to him at the benefit show in Chicago as well as the Rock Walk induction in LA. Unfortunately, not everyone who wanted to participate in those events was not able to at the time. We all wanted to do something to honor Darrell.

Jason BittnerThis song is our way of contributing to the same giving spirit and legacy that Darrell was all about. We want to continue the movement of selfless sharing that he started and lived by. This is our chance to "pay it forward" so to speak.

Friends and colleagues joined together to celebrate Dimebag's life rather than mourn his loss. Jason Bittner - Tristan '1690' Grigsby - Dave Ellefson - Tim 'Ripper' Owens - Nick Bowcott... Each of us had our own time and connection with the Legend. Dave performed with PanterA many times starting at the beginning of their career. 1690 was there with PanterA in their early club days, where they formed a friendship, and played alongside Darrell through the years. Jason toured with Dime during the Damageplan days. Tim crossed paths with the Idol while fronting Judas Priest. Nick was a long time friend , having shared management when he was in Grim Reaper and also through their dealings via Guitar World magazine. Because of the legendary and countless stories of the influence and inspiration to his fans, it was impossible to do this without including them as well. So, this may be the first memorial track to include a performance by a fan; Brian Cashmore.

Leave it Alone was done for Dimebag Darrell Abbott with respect and love. Everyone involved invested their sincere desire to pay tribute to Darrell and gave their blood, hearts and spirit to making something our brother could be proud of.

Leave it Alone will be made available for download exclusively via iTunes with all the proceeds going to Little Kids Rock , in Darrell's name.

Little Kids Rock believes that all children in our public schools deserve music education as music education is a transforming force in children's lives. Dimebag had the same philosophy with always sharing his passion and love of music to the world inspiring kids to pick up a guitar.

Thank you Sarah B Photography
Thursday, 10 April 2008

Sarah B PhotographySarah B Photography came to the Blast Off Drum Competition and took pictures for us, all day long! We wanted to say Thank You and let any of you guys in Denver know about her. We have posted her pictures on the SickDrummer MySpace account and will be adding them soon, to a new gallery on this site...

"All my life, art has been something that has influenced every part of me. When I started photography I never knew a love could grow even more. With more ways to take a photograph then to paint a painting I find myself getting deeper and deeper into photography as an art. Music has also played a big part in my life, but not being musically inclined I find the way for me to show my love for music is to tell my story through the photographs I take.

Everything I see, I see a new way to express myself. A new way to show who I am through my photographs. I've been part of the local Denver music scene since 2004 shooting local bands in the studio and on stage". - Sarah Boger
